Education and Vocational Training for Girls
The impact of poverty has reduced access and quality of education with wider gender gap to the extent that for every 1 girl in school there are 8 boys in upper primary; and in lower primary for every 1 girl there are 4 boys. Lack of fully developed infrastructure and trained teachers exacerbates the problems of access to basic education. With the awareness that education cannot wait, HDI currently runs a project sponsoring girls through their secondary education
This program, among others, addresses the need for nursery, primary and secondary education, it gives special focus to girl-child and acutely vulnerable children through sponsorships. It promotes multiple trainings to community leaders to increase leadership skills, management, community development and entrepreneurship that create self-sufficient and assets for women, girls and youth groups. To support girls education through advocacy and material support with school fees, educational materials and personal effects which otherwise would hinder and keep these girls out of school.
